Parastatal under Lagos State Ministry of Environment & Water Resources
Founded: 1977 (as Lagos State Refuse Disposal Board), reconstituted in 1991, renamed LAWMA in 2007
Mission & Activities:
- Regulates, guides, and oversees municipal & industrial waste collection and disposal
- Oversees recycling initiatives (e.g., public bin distribution) & marine waste cleanup
- Runs educational programs via LAWMA Academy (launched 2020)
- Partners with 428 PSP (private sector) operators; supports leasing new compactor trucks (announced Apr 1, 2025)
