About the Role
500 Global, a leading global venture capital and impact investing firm, is seeking an experienced Deputy Director of Sustainable Growth, Africa, to drive the organisation’s capital engagement strategy and partnership development across the continent. This senior role supports the Director of Sustainable Growth and leads efforts to connect innovation, sustainable finance, and development priorities to accelerate inclusive growth in Africa and globally.
The Deputy Director will serve as a key strategic advisor, lead institutional partnership initiatives, and represent 500 Global at high-level forums and development finance convenings, strengthening the firm’s presence and impact in sustainable growth, climate, gender equity, economic opportunity, and health sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to and execute 500 Global’s capital engagement strategy across Africa.
- Identify and develop initiatives linking innovation, sustainable finance, and development priorities to accelerate sustainable growth.
- Monitor global trends in sustainable finance, blended capital models, and public-private partnerships to inform strategy and development pipelines.
- Translate high-level vision into actionable strategies, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Advise senior leadership (Director, Managing Partner, COO) on partnership strategy and organisational positioning.
Partnership Development & Implementation
- Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of partnerships with DFIs, multilaterals, corporations, and foundations.
- Develop high-quality materials for partners, including proposals, investment memos, and strategic briefs.
- Integrate partnership insights into internal strategy, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Relationship Management & Representation
- Cultivate long-term relationships with institutional partners across Africa, including DFIs, governments, philanthropies, and corporates.
- Serve as a key relationship manager, ensuring strategic alignment and delivery against partnership objectives.
- Represent 500 Global at investor forums, policy dialogues, and global development finance events.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in capital partnerships, sustainable finance, global development, or impact investing, ideally within DFIs, multilaterals, or similar platforms.
- Deep experience working across African countries and engaging with diverse regional stakeholders.
- Proven track record in building and managing institutional partnerships and senior external relationships.
- Strong understanding of catalytic finance, blended capital models, and ESG frameworks.
- Experience representing organisations at high-level negotiations or global convenings.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, resilience, and commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
